SubmitHub study finds AI in nearly 40% of July releases
The detector found 23.2% were fully AI-generated, another 15.3% were AI-made audio altered by humans, and 31% of artists later denied using AI.
SubmitHub's SH Labs detector found AI involvement in nearly 40% of music released globally in July 2026 after analysing more than one million releases. It said 23.2% were fully AI-generated, while a further 15.3% contained AI-generated audio that had been modified or processed by humans, bringing the total to 38.5%.
As reported earlier in August, Beatport had already expanded its own AI-music rules.
SH Labs launched in June after SubmitHub identified what it called a growing disclosure problem, one that leaves listeners without a clear view of how a song was made. The detector is already used by Bandcamp and Traxsource to analyse music for AI involvement.
The study also suggested a gap between what the detector flagged and what creators were willing to admit. SubmitHub said 31% of artists whose music was deemed to contain AI told the platform they had not used any AI tools when asked.
MusicRadar reported that SubmitHub warned SH Labs might be unfairly flagging some tracks, or that some producers may simply be too embarrassed to disclose using AI. Founder Jason Grishkoff has argued that the path forward is disclosure, saying people should be able to decide for themselves whether they want to engage with AI-generated music and that SubmitHub's job is to give them enough information to make that choice. That is the gap SH Labs was built to expose.
