Fred again.. rejects AI music as a substitute for making it

Fred again.. said he has “no pull whatsoever” to try AI-generated music, arguing that the process of making music is where its magic lies. Fred again.. posted the reflections in a series of Instagram Stories on Sept. 25, according to DJ Mag. He had written them in his phone’s Notes app a year earlier. “The process is the magic,” he wrote. Fred again.. suggested that the opposite of AI music was not necessarily human music, but “making music”, and said people who make art can recognise the importance of that creative process. He described generating ideas and making tracks as a form of meditation, saying he places much of his identity in it. Handing the process over to a machine, he argued, would be intrinsically contrary to what he loves about music-making. The time involved was part of the point. He said the hours and years spent attempting to make a particular piece of music were valuable in themselves. Fred again.. distinguished that view from broader fears over artificial intelligence. “There are lots of things I’m worried about AI threatening,” he wrote, “but that will never be one.” His comments echoed recent criticism of AI in music from Skrillex and Thomas Bangalter of Daft Punk.
